Obituary

Dorsel D. "Butch" Goings, age 70 of rural Summitville, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, January 29, 2016 at I.U. Health / Ball Hospital in Muncie following an ice fishing accident. He was born March 6, 1945 in Elwood, the son of Dorsel and Wanda (Sorrell) Goings. Butch worked in construction management for Steve Sizelove Construction for 33 years, and retired in 2004. He was a 1963 graduate of Wendell L. Willkie High School, and later attended both Purdue University and Indiana University. Butch served his country in the U.S. Army for two years during the Vietnam War, and was a proud member of the American Legion. He married the love of his life, Marcia Wells, on January 25, 1969, and they celebrated their 47th anniversary this month. Butch was an avid outdoorsman and loved fishing for bluegill and crappie; planting and caring for flowers and his property; caring for his dogs – Jackson and Molly; and working on all sorts of projects to help other people. He will be remembered as a very humble man who was always willing to help others – especially his neighbors. Butch kept detailed records of all his fishing trips and gave away the majority of all the fish he caught. He also enjoyed watching Colts football, Pacers basketball, and his favorite NASCAR driver – Jeff Gordon. He liked reading; had a great sense of humor; and will always be remembered by Marcia for making humorous handmade birthday cards and valentine gifts.

Butch's family includes wife of 47 years, Marcia Goings of Summitville; 3 sisters, Peggy (husband Morris) Cooper of Elwood, Judy Mountcastle of Lapel, and Debbie (husband David) Morrow of Anderson; best friend, Wayne Mosbaugh of Elwood; brother-in-law, Joe Wells (companion Linda Werline) both of Elwood; sister-in-law, Sharon (husband Kent) Justus of Alexandria; and 13 nieces and nephews, Marty Wells, Becky Thompson, Marla Ozenbaugh, Robin Loughlin, Brad Justus, Darla Rigdon, Robert Mountcastle, Scott Mountcastle, Chad Mountcastle, Danny Cooper, Donna French, David Cooper, and Doug Cooper. Butch was preceded in death by his parents and father and mother-in-law, Ed and Mary Wells.

Military honors will be conducted by the U.S. Military led by his great-niece, Sergeant Megan Mason. Entombment will take place at a later date in the Elwood City Cemetery Mausoleum.
