Dorothy Lucille (Doan) Roby, age 84 of Elwood, died Friday, June 29, 2012 surrounded by her family at Kindred Specialty Hospital in Indianapolis following an extended illness. She was born April 7, 1928 in Elwood, the daughter of Cecil and Minnie J. (Fetz) Doan. She attended Elwood High School. Dorothy married Paul LeRoy Roby on April 15, 1945. She was a homemaker most of her life. She was a former member of the First Baptist Church in Elwood; the Women's International Bowling Congress; Lady Elks; and the Ladies Association of the Pipe Creek Township Volunteer Fire Department. Dorothy was talented in gardening, sewing, making dolls, cooking, and most crafts. She took professional dance lessons for some time, and therefore, "Dancing With the Stars" was her favorite television show. She and her husband spent many vacations traveling and camping. She had so much pride for her grandchildren, and babysitting for them was the greatest joy in her life. Dorothy loved cooking and trying new recipes, and she used her children and grandchildren as "guinea pigs" to test her new recipes. She was the Roby family's version of "Paula Dean". She will be sadly missed by her family and her beloved cocker spaniel, Lacy.
