Obituary

Dorothy Nell "Dot" Snyder, age 91 of Elwood, passed away Friday, October 10, 2014 at St. Vincent Mercy Hospital in Elwood after a brief illness. She was born January 4, 1923 in Elwood, the daughter of Alonzo and Beatrice (Hobbs) Dellinger. She was a secretary for J. Lewis Small Jewelry Company in Elwood for more than 15 years before retiring in 1982. Dot also formerly worked at Continental Can Corporation in Elwood for 20 years, and was formerly a secretary to the principal at Elwood High School. She was a 1941 graduate of Elwood High School. As a young person, she was involved in Girl Scouts, and later was the first female to have a Call-Leader paper route. Dot married Robert E. Snyder on March 10, 1945 at East Main Street Christian Church in Elwood. She was a loyal member of Curtisville Christian Church for over 60 years, and served in the Ladies Aid Group. Dot was a devoted member of Delta Theta Tau Sorority since joining in June of 1941, and was honored to serve as the National President of the sorority at the Los Angeles Convention in 1975. She later served as President of the Elwood Beta Chapter of Delta Theta Tau Sorority, and continued as an active member until age 90. She was also formerly a member of the W.O.E. (Women of Elwood) Club, the Order of Eastern Star, and the Elwood Meals on Wheels program. Dot was proud of her past accomplishments, and in recent years truly enjoyed the company of and reminiscing with her good friends.

Dot's family includes her husband of over 69 years, Robert E. Snyder of Elwood; son, Robert E. "Duke" Snyder, Jr. (wife Linda Robb-Snyder) of Marion; granddaughter, Heather Marie Carter; great-granddaughter, Skyler A. Carter; 2 sisters, Irene (Jack) Melling of Frankton, and Ilene Warner of San Antonio, TX; brother-in-law, Walter McDaniel of Paradise Valley, CA; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; 2 brothers, Donald Dellinger and Dilvert Dellinger; 3 sisters, Delores Benedict, Doree Mitchell, and Esther McDaniel; and grandson, David Robert Snyder.

Funeral services celebrating Dot's life will be conducted at 11:00 AM Wednesday, October 15, 2014 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood with Rev. Richard True and Rev. Jim Snapp officiating. Entombment will follow in the Elwood City Cemetery Mausoleum. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 8:00 PM on Tuesday, October 14, 2014 at the funeral home, and will include a Delta Theta Tau Sorority Memorial Service at 7:00 PM.
