Dorothy May
Lawhorn
Sep 11, 1931 — Mar 27, 2025
Dorothy "May" Lawhorn , age 93 of Elwood, passed away on Thursday, March 27, 2025, at Elwood Assisted Living following an extended battle with congestive heart failure. She was born September 11, 1931, in Lapel, the daughter of Floyd Marcus and Mary Edith (Hamble) Guilkey. May married Carl Lawhorn on January 17, 1952, and they shared nearly 50 years of marriage together until his passing on January 11, 2002. She worked for many years in housekeeping at the nursing home in Noblesville until 1990, and had previously worked at a sewing company in Portland. May was a longtime member of the United Pentecostal Church in Noblesville, but had recently been attending Life Church in Elwood. She had a servant's heart as she was always helping everyone she met. May enjoyed keeping everything clean and organized. She truly adored all of her family, especially her grandchildren. More than anything, May will be remembered as a loving and caring mom, grandma, and sister.
May's family includes 2 daughters, Marinda (John) Correll of Anderson, and Linda (Rick) Loveless of Elwood; twin sister, Rebecca Fay Stephens of Westfield; 6 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
May was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Bob and Colleen Lawhorn; brother, Paul Guilkey; grandson, Michael Lawhorn; granddaughter, Angela (Loveless) Bauer; and great-grandchild, Baby Macy.
A funeral service celebrating May's life and faith will be conducted at 12:00 pm on Saturday, April 5, 2025, at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood with Pastor Scott Blaylock of Life Church officiating. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm on Saturday, April 5, 2025, prior to the service at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home. In place of flowers, the family requests that supportive gifts in her honor be made to a cause May cared about. The family will be notified when you give a supportive gift to either Beacon of Hope Crisis Center https://beaconofhopeindy.org or the American Cancer Society https://www.cancer.org.
