Obituary

Doris M. (Barber) Shepard, age 77 of Elwood, died Wednesday, August 29, 2012 at her residence after an extended illness. She was born July 11, 1935 in rural Frankton, the daughter of Virgil and Wava (Swart) Barber. She was a graduate of Frankton High School. She married Rolland E. "Gene" Shepard on January 24, 1974. Doris worked in production at Ex-Cello Corporation and retired after 36 years of service. She was an avid bird lover and watcher. Doris was a 50 year member of the Elwood Order of Eastern Star. She enjoyed quilting and crocheting, and especially enjoyed reading her Bible and listening to Beethoven music. Doris enjoyed spending time with her family and her extended family who she loved very much.

Family members include a daughter, Cindy Ward of Anderson, a brother, Don (Anita Ruth) Barber of Tipton; many nieces and nephews, including, Keith (Barb) Barber of Elwood, Doneta (Smoke) Merida of Tipton, Tony (Viann) Barber of Elwood, Jeff (Jenny) Barber of Elwood, Rodney Shepard of Kokomo, Ronnie Joe (Vicki) Shepard of Kokomo , Carol (Jeff) Dautrich of Atlanta, Debra Cornwell of Elwood, Terri (Larry) Jones of Atlanta, Billy McClure of Tennessee, and Susan Buttrey of Tennessee; several In-laws including Mary Lou Shepard of Kokomo, Dorothy Shepard of Atlanta, Tom Shepard of Elwood, Arnold (Diane) Shepard of Elwood, Chuck (Jean) Shepard of Elwood, Dave Shepard of Anderson, Roberta (Phil) Roe of Tipton, and Carolyn Coffee of Lafayette; special cats, "Baby Kitty" and "Lucy"; and special dog, "Lilly".

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Rolland E. "Gene" Shepard who died May 20, 2012 and brother, Bill Barber, and former husband Max Summers.

Funeral services will be conducted Friday, August 31, 2012 at 2:00 PM at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood with Rev. Roger Gardner of East Main Street Christian Church and Donita Covington of the Elwood Mission officiating. Burial will follow in the Elwood City Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 12:00 to 2:00 PM prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Elwood Mission through the funeral home.
