Doris M.
Heater
May 20, 1929 — Jun 10, 2018
Doris Marie Heater, age 89 of Fishers and former longtime resident of Elwood, passed away on Sunday, June 10, 2018 at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis following a brief illness, but a long, well-lived life. She was born May 20, 1929 in Anderson, the daughter of Lester and Goldie E. (Wheeldon) Rumler, Sr. Doris worked as a grocery clerk and meat wrapper at I.G.A., Kroger, Crawford's Grocery, and later retired from Sherry's Pantry in Orestes in 2000. She attended Anderson High School. Doris married the love of her life, Omer H. Heater, on November 23, 1946, and they shared 65 years of marriage together until his death in 2011. Early in life, she was affiliated with the Salvation Army, and later was attended the Lutheran Church in Elwood. On special occasions, she attended Greater Light Church with her son Larry. She enjoyed crocheting, camping, and playing "old man" solitaire on her computer in recent years. Doris was known for her jokes, her wonderful sense of humor, and for always saying "thank you" to everyone. She was an excellent cook, and was especially known for her delicious chicken and noodles. More than anything, Doris was devoted to all her family, and she especially enjoyed caring for her grandchildren.
Doris's family legacy includes 4 children, Tricia Ruben of Fishers, Larry (wife Debbie) Heater of Anderson, Ricky (wife Eva) Heater of Crystal, NV, and Harold (wife Connie) Heater of Elwood; twin sister, Pat Sells of Middletown; brother, Jack Rumler of Arizona; 8 grandchildren, Tonya Blackwell, April Mensick, Ricky Lee Heater, Jr., Ross Planalp, Jerrico Planalp, Thomas Heater, Jackie Idlewine, and Adam (wife Jamie) Ruben; numerous great-grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Doris was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Omer H. Heater in 2011; 2 sisters, Phyllis Thomas and Betty Jones; and brother, Lester Rumler, Jr.
A Life Celebration funeral service for Doris will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Thursday, June 14, 2018 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood with Pastor Michael Johnson of the Greater Light Church in Anderson, officiating.
