Donald E. Martin, age 81 of Elwood, died Tuesday, June 24, 2014 at Miller's Merry Manor in Tipton. He was born March 11, 1933 in Lafountain, the son of Chester and Madelyn Louise (Marsh) Martin. He worked for J. Lewis Small Company in Elwood for several years as a mold and ring maker. Donald married Dorothy R. Brannen on October 23, 1951; and they spent more than 62 years together. He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Donald worked various jobs including plumbing, heating and farming. He was proud of the time he spent in the Army and was formerly a member of the American Legion. He enjoyed working in his yard, fixing things for himself and others, cooking and watching western movies and wrestling on TV.
Donald's family includes his wife of more than 62 years, Dorothy Martin of Tipton; 3 children, Helen Pratt of Kokomo, Kenny Martin of Elwood, and Dusty Fowler of Elwood; brother, David Martin of Tuscon, AZ; 11 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and 2 brothers, Dick Martin and Delmar Martin.
A memorial celebration of Donald's life will be held at 2 PM on Saturday, June 28, 2014 at Joy Christian Church, 529 S. A St. in Elwood, with Pastor James Stout officiating. Burial will take place at a later date. Online condolences to the Martin family may be made at: www.copherfeslermay.com.
