Dessie L. Fisher, age 97 of Elwood, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 5, 2016 at Community Parkview Care Center in Elwood following an extended illness. She was born August 10, 1918 in Alexandria to William H. and Clista (Bollinger) Cornwell. Dessie was a homemaker all of her life, and had also previously worked at Fettig's Canning Factory. She married Joe E. Fisher on June 29, 1969. She was a member of East Main Street Christian Church in Elwood and formerly active in the Elwood Eagles Lodge with her husband. She enjoyed traveling and cooking, and was known for making delicious noodles. She will be remembered for being devoted to her family and especially her grandchildren.
Dessie's family includes daughter, Shirley (husband Don) Parrish of Frankton; son, Pat (wife Carolyn) Harvey of Sarasota, FL; 5 grandchildren, Stephanie (husband Ron) Buser of Anderson, Dana (wife Erin) Parrish of Anderson, Tina (husband Bruce) Weismiller of Elwood, Deon Ochoa of Elwood, and Desiree (husband Edward) Arenas of Marion; 7 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Norman C. Harvey who died in 1968; second husband, Joe E. Fisher who died in 2010; daughter, Vanda Ochoa; grandson, Brad Parrish; and 13 siblings.
Funeral services celebrating Dessie's life will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Thursday, February 11, 2016 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood with Rev. Roger Gardner of East Main Street Christian Church officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery in Elwood. Visitation will be held from noon until 2:00 PM prior to the funeral on Thursday at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home.
