Obituary

Dennis C. Ogden, age 66 of Elwood, died at his residence Sunday, May 27, 2012 after an extended illness. He was born August 8, 1945 in Traverse City, Michigan, the son of Dennis B. Ogden and Mary C. (Sharp) Tragesser. He retired from Steel Parts Corporation in Tipton in 2004 where he had worked as a Press Operator for more than 30 years. He married Helen K. Merkel on October 7, 1988. He served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany during the Vietnam War. Dennis was a 1965 graduate of Jackson Central High School (currently Hamilton Heights) in Hamilton County where he played on both the football and baseball teams. He was a member of the Elwood V.F.W. He enjoyed NASCAR racing, Colts football, and formerly fishing. He especially enjoyed watching sports on television.

Survivors include his wife of 23 years, Helen K. Ogden of Elwood; 2 daughters, Cheryl (husband Jim) Trietsch of Atlanta and Tammy (husband Jeff) Wiggington of Tipton; 3 step-children, George (wife Vicki) Williams of Indianapolis, Kim (husband Russ) Farr of Frankton, and Tim (wife Susan) Williams of Oaklandon; 3 brothers, Morton (wife Patty) Ogden of Tipton, Phillip A. (wife Karen) Ogden of North Carolina, and Jerry M. (wife Ava) Ogden of Tipton; 12 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; step-father, Paul A. Tragesser; 2 brothers, John B. Ogden and Walter P. Ogden; and 2 sisters, Catherine L. Ogden and Viola Jane Stokes.

Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday May 31, 2012 at 6:00 PM at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood with Pastor Jeff Iacobazzi of the St. John Lutheran Church in Elwood officiating. Burial will take place in Fairview Cemetery in Tipton at a later date. Visitation will be held from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM on Thursday prior to the funeral service at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home.
