Obituary

Demmie-Ree Carpenter, age 95 of rural Arcadia said farewell to her earthly family and happily joined her Heavenly Father and her spiritual family on Sunday, September 14, 2014 at Milner Community Healthcare in Rossville. "Death is not extinguishing the light, but putting out the lamp because the dawn has come." She was born July 17, 1919 in Elwood, the daughter of Benjamin Franklin and Mary Ardell (Huffman) Smith. Demmie–Ree was a child care provider in her home in White River Township in Hamilton County from the 1940's through the 1960's. She was a graduate of Frankton High School and married Donald E. Carpenter on March 1, 1939. The children she cared for were one of her greatest joys in life.

Demmie-Ree's family includes 3 children, Lauretta (husband David) McCullough of Geetingsville, Doris Ann Easterday of Kokomo, and Dana Lee Carpenter of Indianapolis; 2 grandchildren, Brena Easterday, and Don Easterday.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 53 years, Donald E. Carpenter who died September 13, 1992; siblings, Truman M. Smith, Ovid Smith, Kenneth Smith, Forrest Smith, and Erma Lee Smith McMahon.

A graveside funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, September 17, 2014 at the Aroma United Methodist Church Cemetery in Atlanta with Pastor Gary Eberhart of Kemp United Methodist Church in Tipton officiating. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Arrangements have been entrusted to Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood.
