Kane
Jan 18, 1927 — Sep 4, 2017
Della M. Kane, age 90 of Elwood, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 4, 2017 at Community Parkview Care Center following a brief illness, but a long, full life. She was born on January 18, 1927 in Homer, Michigan, the daughter of Ira and Marie (Shaw) Hayes. Della was co-owner and operator of Mr. Happy Burger restaurant in Elwood for 51 years and also formerly worked as a nurse for several years. She was a 1945 graduate of Marshall High School in Michigan, studied at Bible Baptist Institute, and later attended college for nursing. She married Edward A. Kane on January 31, 1953, and they shared more than 64 years of marriage together. Della was a member and former president of the Home Extension Club in Madison County. She enjoyed sewing very much, and had hand-sewn all the curtains at Mr. Happy Burger for many years; and many are still used today. Della was a passionate collector of elephant figurines, Dept. 56 Christmas Village sets, and was an avid collector of all things related to Minnie Mouse. She and Ed especially enjoyed big-band music and dancing in their younger years. Della will be greatly missed by all her family.
Della's family legacy includes her husband, Edward A. Kane of Elwood; 3 children, Alan (wife Shirley) Kane of Jacksonville, FL, Lynne Kane of Jacksonville, FL, and Brian (wife Teri) Kane of Elwood; sister, Shirley (husband John) Schmitt of Ann Arbor, MI; brother, Phillip (wife Regina) Hayes of Marshall, MI; 3 grandchildren, Christopher (wife Jamie) Kane, Hillary Anderson, and Aaron Kane; 4 great-grandchildren, Jacob Anderson, Brittany Anderson, Samantha Kane, and Brennan Kane; and several nieces and nephews. Della was preceded in death by her parents and 2 brothers, Fred Hayes and Cecil Hayes.
