Debra A.
Douglas
Nov 4, 1954 — Dec 20, 2025
Debra A. Douglas , age 71, of Elwood and formerly of Plainfield, passed away on Saturday, December 20, 2025, at her residence following a brief illness. She was born November 4, 1954, in Indianapolis, the daughter of James A. and Guythel A. (Woods) Douglas. Deb was a 1972 graduate of Avon High School and furthered her education by obtaining a bachelor's degree in nursing from Indiana University. She dedicated over 42 years of her life to caring for others as a registered nurse at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, retiring in 2015. Deb worked for many years in the hospital's special orthopedics department, where her commitment and work ethic were deeply respected.
Though she was quiet by nature, Deb was a gentle and compassionate presence for her patients and colleagues alike. Her kindness was often expressed through attentive care, a listening ear, and a steadfast devotion to those around her. Deb was a member of Curtisville Christian Church. She enjoyed traveling with many of her nursing friends all around the world. She also loved gardening—she had quite the green thumb—and shopping, especially for new purses. Deb cherished the years spent in her family home, caring for and treasuring the memories made there. More than anything, Deb will be remembered as a hardworking nurse, a quiet yet caring woman, and a loving mother, sister, and aunt.
Deb is survived by her daughter, Anna Douglas of Elwood; 2 brothers, Mike (Melissa) Douglas of Elwood, and Jay (Donna) Douglas of Cloverdale; 5 nephews, Cody (Brittany) Douglas, Zachariah (Sammantha) Douglas, Ethan Douglas, Quentin Douglas, and Wyatt Douglas; niece, Sadie Douglas; great-nephew, Denver Douglas; and several extended family members and friends. Deb is preceded in death by her parents.
Deb's wishes were to have a private family burial at Cartersburg Cemetery in Cartersburg, Indiana where she will be laid to rest next to her parents. Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood is honored to handle Debra's funeral arrangements. Online condolences and memories may be shared at copherfeslermay.com.
