David T. "Tim" Oakes, age 54 of Elwood, died Monday, July 11, 2011 at St. Vincent Mercy Hospital in Elwood following a stroke and extended illness. He was born February 2, 1957 in Kokomo, Indiana the son of Rev. Robert and Mary (Whited) Oakes. He was a wrecker driver for 15 years for Fisher Towing Service in Kokomo, and retired in 2006. David was a 1975 graduate of Tri-Central High School and later served in the U.S. Air Force. He earned an Associates degree from Indiana University – Kokomo campus. He was a member of the Pentecostal Church. He married Margaret E. Caplinger on August 1, 1998. David loved singing gospel music and fishing.

ivors include: Wife – Margaret E. (Caplinger) Oakes of Elwood; 2 Daughters – Sarah A. (husband Bronson) Jones of Muncie and Denah A. Oakes of Kokomo; 2 Brothers – Dennis Oakes and James "Jimmy" Oakes both of Kokomo; 2 Sisters – Sharon Oakes of Kokomo and Ruth (husband Bob) Marasec of Portsmouth, OH; 4 Grandchildren – Brendon David Jones, Brianna Jones, Adriana Burdick, Samantha Oakes; In-Laws – Ann Caplinger, Chris Alfrey, Roger Alfrey, Aaron (wife Brenda) Alfrey, Andrew "Andy" (wife Melissa) Alfrey; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and Sister-in-law - Patricia Aldridge.

A private celebration of David's life will be held at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery in Elwood with Pastor Paul Lane officiating. Military Honors will be provided by the U.S. Military and Elwood V.F.W. Honor Guard teams.
