David Dee "Dave" Leavitt , age 80 of Huntington, and formerly of Rigdon, passed away peacefully early Saturday, December 31, 2022 at his home after an extended illness. He was born September 28, 1942 in Elwood, the son of Harold W. and Florence M. (Harper) Leavitt, Sr. David was a 1961 graduate of Swayzee High School. He worked at Firestone Corporation in Noblesville for 15 years and retired in 2009. Dave later was a self-employed truck driver for several years. He married Rosilie J. "Rose" (Turner) on June 7, 2019, and they shared several years of marriage together. Dave and Rose are members of the Curtisville Christian Church.
Dave loved mowing his yard and taking care of his property in Rigdon where he lived for 16 years. He also enjoyed woodworking, collecting toy tractors, and vegetable gardening for many years. Dave nearly always had a smile on his face and could be seen regularly at Friendly's restaurant in Elwood where he enjoyed socializing with friends. More than anything, Dave enjoyed spending time with his family as often as possible.
Dave's family legacy includes his wife, Rose Leavitt of Huntington; two sons, Paul (April) Leavitt of Fairmount and Matt (Erica) Leavitt of Tipton; 3 step-children, April (Matt) Teusch of Huntington, Steve (Laura) Overmyer of New York City, and Heather (Chris) Sandlin of Fort Wayne; two brothers, Rex Leavitt of Elwood and Max (Pam) Leavitt of Gas City; sisters-in-law, Barb Clemons of Tennessee and Sonja Leavitt of Elwood; 13 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Dave was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Jim Leavitt, Jack Leavitt, Joyce Carroll, June Leavitt, Harold Leavitt, Jr., Pat Stephan, Bill Clemons, Keith Leavitt, and Mike Leavitt.
A Life Celebration visitation will be held from 2 to 4 pm on Sunday, January 8, 2023 at Curtisville Christian Church in Tipton County. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Curtisville Christian Church.
