David Allen "Dave" Hancock, Sr ., age 76 of Elwood, passed away suddenly on Friday, June 27, 2025 at Ascension-St. Vincent Mercy Hospital in Elwood following a recent illness. He was born October 15, 1948 in Elwood, the son of Malcolm Wayne and Elnora Mae (Harting) Hancock. Dave was a 1966 graduate of Wendell L. Willkie High School in Elwood. During Dave's senior year of high school he met the love of his life and soulmate, Rosalie Farr. They were married on October 23, 1966 and shared over 58 years of marriage together. Following high school, Dave began working for Guide Lamp Division of General Motors in Anderson where he worked for 30 years retiring in 2002. Dave was a proud member of the U.A.W. #663. He was known for being musically gifted and could play anything with strings and also loved taking pictures. Dave was an avid car, truck, and jeep enthusiast, and he enjoyed going to area car shows to see classic vehicles. He especially enjoyed working on some of his own cars in his free time.
After Dave retired, you never saw him without his love, Rosalie, as they were truly inseparable. They enjoyed doing everything together including camping, canoeing, taking motorcycle rides, and even grocery shopping. Dave was known for his famous "Dave Style" which included wearing fashionable hats, smoking his pipe, and always finding a good place to nap. He was a quiet, gentle man who adored his family and loved his feline buddy, "Cooper". Dave will be greatly missed by all who loved him, but his legacy will live on forever.
Dave is survived by his wife of 58 years, Rosalie Hancock of Elwood; son, Gregory (Andrea) Hancock of Elwood; daughter-in-law, Kimberly Hancock of Michigan; 6 grandchildren, Josh (Christopher and Riley) Hancock, Nathan (Evelyne) Hancock, Madison (Becca) Quillen, Jessica (Jon) Paulino, Zack (Brooklyn) Hancock, and Christopher Lare; 6 great grandchildren, Cayden Ball, Camden Ball, Ellanora Ball, Zoe Hancock, Atlas Quillen, and Loahla Callaway; special sister-in-law, Carolyn Haynes; brothers and sisters-in-law, Berry Hancock, Tom (Kathy) Farr, and Joyce (Alan) Rybecki; special cat, "Cooper"; and several nieces and nephews.
