Obituary

Dane R. May, age 56 of Sarasota, Florida and formerly of Union City, Indiana passed away on Tuesday, February 20, 2018 at his residence while receiving hospice care following a recent diagnosis of an aggressive form of cancer.  He was born March 5, 1961 in Winchester, Indiana the son of Cledis "Don" May and Joann (Conyers) Prescott.  Dane was a 1979 graduate of Mississinewa Valley High School in Union City, Ohio.  He moved to Florida over 30 years ago, and loved the warmer climate in Florida and living near the ocean.  Dane worked as an electric technician for several companies most of his life, and last worked for a prominent electric service company in the Sarasota area.  Dane was passionate about life, and lived every day to the fullest.  He was proud to have been involved in Alcoholics Anonymous for over 30 years, not only as a successful participant – but a counselor and mentor to many others.  Dane especially enjoy fishing and spending time with his children who he loved very much.  He was also an accomplished carpenter and had remodeled several homes throughout his life.  Dane inherited his father's natural ability to repair and work on cars, and he could repair just about anything he put his mind to fixing.  He will be greatly missed by his family and close circle of friends.

Dane's family legacy includes his mother, Joann Prescott (Jim Reier, Sr.) of Saratoga, IN and Fort Myers, FL; daughter, Emily May of Sarasota, FL, son, Zachary May of Sarasota, FL; sister, Dana May of Winchester, IN; brothers, Jim Reier of Florida, Corey (wife Sonya) May of Elwood, IN, Cris (wife Debbie) Briggs of Farmland, IN, and Regie May of California; aunt, Bettye (husband Charles) Kindred of Winchester, IN; uncle, Larry May (Carolyn Grubbs) of Winchester, IN; step-mother, Phyllis May of Elwood, IN; and several nieces, nephews, and extended family members.  He was preceded in death by his father, C. Don May; brother, Tracy May; and grandparents, Noble May, Jewel Combs, and Opal Conyers.

A memorial service celebrating Dane's life will be held at 1:00 pm on Thursday, May 3, 2018 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood with Rev. Doug Bohall of the First United Methodist Church in Elwood, officiating.  Burial will follow in the Elwood City Cemetery next to his father.  A casual visitation for family and friends will be held from noon to 1:00 pm prior to the memorial service on Thursday.  Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.  Online expressions of condolence may be made at copherfeslermay.com.
