Dale Allen McCord, age 79 of Elwood, slipped from our grasp and into eternity on Wednesday, June 24, 2026 at his home. He was born in Elwood the son of Robert Franklin and Doris June (Morse) McCord on December 2, 1946. The first thing to be said about Dale McCord is that he was deeply loved by his family and he was deeply devoted to them. He was a 1965 graduate of Frankton High School. Dale married Christy Sue Kochman on February 11, 1968. Nothing testified to his character more clearly than his dedication, love, and care for his wife of 51 years, Christy. He served in the Army National Guard from 1967 to 1973, and was a longtime member of East Main Street Christian Church in Elwood.

Dale started his working career by mowing the grass at Ed Jones’ Green Acres trailer park, starting when he was only 8 years old. He worked at the local Phillips 66 filling station, then for Acme Paving in the spring and summer of 1965. In October of that year, he began his career at Delco-Remy in Anderson, and retired in 1999 after 34 years of dedicated work. In the spring of 2000, he joined the crew of the Elwood Parks Department and served seasonally until 2011.

When the weather was pleasant, Dale enjoyed working outdoors on his lawn and garden as well as washing and waxing his cars. He and Christy also spent 18 memorable winters in Florida. Dale still owned his very first car, and would attend car shows as often as possible. He will be remembered as a loving family man who always did his best to provide for all of their needs.

Dale is survived by his 2 sons, Robert (Tamara) McCord of McCordsville, and Moses Joseph (Sara) McCord of Hendersonville, NC; brother, David (Janet) McCord of Elwood; 5 grandchildren, Elijah, Hope, Audrey, Arizona, and Alaina; and several nieces and nephews. Dale is preceded in death by his parents, and his beloved wife, Christy McCord.

The family wishes to thank the wonderful oncology staff of Elwood’s St. Vincent Mercy Hospital, as well as the caring staff of Compassus Hospice. Dale’s family is deeply appreciative for the support of his several friends, especially David and Janie Burton.

A funeral service celebrating Dale’s life will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, July 10, 2026 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood with Rev.
