Dale H. Bell Sr., age 87, a long-time resident of Elwood, died Monday September 4, 2012 surrounded by his family at his residence following a brief illness. He was born December 25, 1924 in Bridgeton, the son of Jacob John and Stella (Overpeck) Bell. He retired as a parts carrier for Shepard Tool Company in Elwood where he worked for many years. Dale was a 1942 Graduate of Elwood High School. He married Mary Ruth Crockett on May 27, 1945. Dale formerly attended East Main Street Christian Church in Elwood, and was a life member of the Elks Lodge #368 in Elwood. He enjoyed fishing and watching baseball - especially the Cincinnati Reds, Atlanta Braves, and the Chicago Cubs. Dale was also an avid NASCAR fan and enjoyed visiting several speedways throughout the years. He was an accomplished woodworker and woodcrafter; and was well-known for vegetable gardening and sharing his vegetables with friends and family. He was loved and liked by many people and will be greatly missed by all.

His family includes, son Dale (wife Anita) Bell, Jr. of Elwood; 2 sisters, Rosemary Conway of Cumberland, MD and Louise (husband Don) Dean of Elwood; 6 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 63 years, Mary R.(Crockett) Bell who died July 24, 2008; son, Charles Bell; daughter, Sharon Phillips; and 2 grandchildren, Trisha Bell and Mark Reeves.

Private graveside services will be conducted at the Elwood City Cemetery with Dale's friend, Rich Leavell officiating. Arrangements have been entrusted to Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood.
