Cynthia A. "Cindy" Burkert, Age 58 of Elwood, died Monday, November 7, 2011 at St. Vincent Mercy Hospital in Elwood following unexpected complications from surgery a few weeks ago. She was born October 29, 1953 in Anderson - the daughter of Robert J. and Eileen "Pat" (Burton) Burkert. She was a sales accountant for nearly 20 years for Pioneer Hi-Bred International Seed Company in Tipton where she loved working and felt as though she was working with her extended family. She was a 1971 graduate of Tipton High School where she was a member of the National Honor Society. She was an active member of the Elwood Branch of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She was involved with the Anderson Civic Theater and the Madison County Theatrical Group. Cindy enjoyed scrap-booking, photography, traveling, and cooking. She also enjoyed singing and playing piano at various functions and was a devoted fan of Barry Manilow. She loved the holidays, and especially loved spending time with her nieces and nephews who knew her as "Aunnie".
Survivors include: Father – Robert J. Burkert of Elwood; 4 Siblings – Pat Raison of Anderson, Robert (Linda) Burkert, Jr. of Tipton, Jim Burkert of Elwood, and Penny Groover of Alexandria; 3 Nieces – Amy Avona, Mandy Groover, and Kara Martin; Uncle – George Burton of Florida; and 2 Aunts – Catherine McIntyre of Anderson and Sue Keesling of Chesterfield.
She was preceded in death by her Mother – Eileen "Pat Burkert and Grandparents – Harvey & Fern Burton and John & Ethel Burkert.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 1:00 PM Thursday, November 10, 2011 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood with Larry Crowder officiating. Burial will follow in the Aroma Cemetery in Atlanta. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 PM Wednesday, November 9, 2011 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions are requested to the Elwood L.D.S. Church or the Elwood Morrisett Center.
