Obituary

Clarice L. Day, age 88 of Elwood and formerly of Tipton, passed away on Thursday evening, November 8, 2018 at the home of her daughter in Elwood following an extended illness, but a long, full life.  She was born February 7, 1930 in Tipton, the daughter of Edgar and Wilmeena (Schaekel) Leininger.  Clarice was a 1948 graduate of Tipton High School.  She retired in 1989 from Delco Electronics in Kokomo where she worked for 25 years in production.  She married Leonard P. Day on January 25, 1969, and they shared 21 years of marriage together before his passing in 1990.  She lived most of her life in Tipton.  Clarice was a devoted member of the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Tipton, and she was active in the Lutheran Ladies Aid for many years.  She was also a volunteer at St. Vincent Mercy Hospital in Elwood for 8 years and a member of the Plum Grove Homemakers Extension Club.  Clarice enjoyed shopping, reading, and especially working crossword puzzles in her later years.  More than anything, she loved to spend time with her family who loved her very much.

Clarice's family legacy includes 4 children, Jil (husband Richard) Proctor of Johnston, IA, Jay (Paula) Dieffenbach of Bradenton, FL, Steve (wife Dominique) Dieffenbach of Jacksonville, FL, and Lynn (husband Dave) Hare of Elwood; step-daughter, Judy (husband Karl) Clouser of Elwood; 13 grandchildren, Sara (Matt) Vais, Aaron (Heather) Hobbs, Travis (Becky) Dieffenbach, Sarah Howard, Trish (Michael) Nicklas, Brendan Dieffenbach, Collin Dieffenbach, Dedra (Rance) Leisure, Darci (Justin) Leisure, Koby (Terry) Vest, Heidi Pierce, Barry (Melissa) Clouser, Doug (Sarah) Clouser; 19 great-grandchildren, Brooklyn, Brayden, Wyatt, Kaleb, Noah, Adaya, Elijah, Eden, Trinity, Liberty, Jack, Norah, Kaiden, River, Zoey, Braxton, Falyn, Lydia, Conner; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Clarice was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Leonard Day in 1990; 5 brothers, Glen (Mary) Leininger, Ezra (Jean) Leininger, Twins Dallas and Dale Leininger, and Lester (Pat) Leininger.

A funeral service celebrating Clarice's life will be conducted at 3:00 PM on Thursday, November 15, 2018 with Rev. Dr. Robb Roloff of Emmanuel Lutheran Church officiating, and her service will be begin with a short dedication by the St. Vincent Mercy Hospital Volunteers.  Burial will follow in the Elwood City Cemetery.  Visitation for family and friends will be held from 12:00 to 3:00 pm on Thursday prior to the funeral at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Morrisett Center Food Pantry or the Elwood Shop-with-a-Cop Program through the funeral home.  Online expressions of condolence may be made at copherfeslermay.com.
