Claribell L. Groover , age 90 of Westfield and formerly of Elwood, passed away on Monday, Dec. 9, 2024 at Copper Trace Nursing Home in Westfield. She was born June 6, 1934 in Elwood, the daughter of Murvle and Eva (Boyer) Groover. Claribell was a 1952 graduate of Wendell L. Willkie High School. She worked at Monticello Manufacturing early in her life and last worked in production at Ex-Cello Corporation in Elwood for 15 years before retirement in 1980.
Claribell was a devoted Christian and faithful servant of the church. She was a former member of First Baptist Church in Elwood and later joined the New Beginnings Fellowship Church. Claribell served as Deaconess at the church and was formerly active in the church choir. She was known for her friendliness with everyone she encountered, and she loved socializing with her longtime friends and classmates, Jean and Rose. Claribell took pride in her home and yard, keeping everything in its place and immaculately maintained. She especially loved watching I.U. basketball and had the highest admiration for Coach Bobby Knight. In her free time, she enjoyed playing cards with family and friends. Claribell will be remembered as a cherished daughter, loving sister, beloved aunt, and loyal friend.
Claribell's family includes niece and caregiver, Rita (Pat) Hankley of Fishers; nieces and nephews, Sheila (Jack) Sittloh, Jim (Jackie) Carroll, Murvle "Tom" (Deb) Simmons, Dempsey Steven Simmons, Mike (Donna) Rieman, Tom (Cheryl) Robinson, Kathy (Greg) TenBrook, Chuck Groover, and David Groover; extended family members, "Mitch" Rieman and Brenda Tumulty; and numerous adored great-nieces & nephews and great-great-nieces & nephews. Claribell was preceded in death by her parents; 5 siblings, Bertha (Ralph) Dowler, Ethelda (Wilbur) Rieman, Mary (Rolland) Tumulty, Genevieve "Jenny" (Dempsey) Simmons, and William "Bill" (Ann) Groover; and 2 nephews, Ronald Rieman and John Tumulty.
A funeral service celebrating Claribell's life will be held at 1:00 pm on Monday, Dec. 16, 2024 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood with Pastor Mike Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the Elwood City Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 11 am to 1 pm prior to the funeral on Monday at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home.
