Christy Sue McCord , age 71 and a lifelong resident of Elwood, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 12, 2019 at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis following an extended lung illness.  She was born November 5, 1948 in Elwood, the daughter of Robert B. and Dorothy (Sparks) Kochman.  Christy was a 1966 graduate of Wendell L. Willkie High School in Elwood, and later studied and became licensed as an Indiana licensed real estate broker.  She married the love of her life, Dale A. McCord on February 11, 1968, and they shared over 51 years of marriage together.  Christy formerly worked for Wayne Doan Real Estate in Elwood as a real estate broker and later retired from Bill Brogdon Realty after 20 years in the business.  She grew up in the Nazarene Church in Elwood, and later joined East Main Street Christian Church in Elwood where she remained a member for over 50 years.  She was formerly active in the Adah Circle at the church for many years.

Christy enjoyed working with flowers and plants; enjoyed baking for her family and friends; crocheting; reading; and was an avid animal lover.  She and Dale were blessed with many memorable years of spending winters in Venice, Florida which she enjoyed very much.  Christy was well-known for corresponding with family and friends with hand-written cards and notes for many years.  She always went out of her way to make others feel special and appreciated.  More than anything, Christy was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who will be greatly missed.  Her family finds comfort knowing she is physically well again in her Heavenly home.

Christy's family includes her husband, Dale A. McCord of Elwood; two sons, Rev. Dr. Robert (wife Tamara) McCord of McCordsville and Moses Joseph (wife Sara) McCord of Hendersonville, NC; brother, Robert K. (wife Fidela) Kochman of San Jose, CA; 5 beloved grandchildren, Elijah, Hope, Audrey, Arizona, and Alaina McCord; and several nieces and nephews.  Christy was preceded in death by both her parents.

A funeral service celebrating Christy's life will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Friday, November 15, 2019 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood with Rev. Roger Gardner of East Main Street Christian Church officiating.  Entombment will follow in the Elwood City Cemetery Mausoleum.  Visitation for family and friends will be held from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm prior to the funeral on Friday at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home.  In honor of Christy's love of animals, memorial contributions are suggested to the Elwood Animal Shelter through the funeral home.  Online condolences and memories may be shared at copherfeslermay.com.
