Christina Louise "Sissy" Miller, age 52 of Elwood, died unexpectedly at her home on Sunday, December 18, 2016. She was born September 1, 1964 in Elwood, the daughter of George W. Goens and Sharon D. (Jarvis) Sells. She was a 1982 graduate of Elwood Community High School and later graduated from the Kokomo School of Practical Nursing in 1983. Sissy retired from Mercy Hospital in Elwood in 1992 where she worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse for nearly 20 years. She married the love of her life, Jackie J. "Jack" Miller on December 14, 1985, and they shared 28 years of marriage together. Sissy was devoted to the Elwood Shop-with-a-Cop Program, which her husband, Jack, founded in the community while serving on the Elwood Police Department. She was a volunteer at the Elwood Elementary School and was an avid animal lover. Sissy enjoyed fishing, socializing and fellowship with friends online and with her computer, and crocheting. She was especially devoted to her family and grandchildren, and would do anything to help them.
Sissy's family includes her father, George (wife Julie) Goens of Brownsburg; mother, Sharon Sells of Elwood; 2 daughters, Chelsie (husband Mike) Peterson of Elwood and Kirsten (husband Jerry) Gonzalez of Elwood; step-daughter, Patricia Miller of Alexandria; brother, Tim (Candy) Goens of Elwood; 2 brothers-in-law, Bob (Margie) Miller of Elwood and Steve (Jane) Miller of St. Cloud, FL; 2 sisters-in-law, Linda Miller of Lafayette and Esther Miller of Lafayette; 4 grandchildren, Jackson & Samantha Peterson, and Jayden & Izek Gonzalez; 2 step-grandchildren, Sarah Miller and Diana Monk; special family member, John Dyer of Anderson; several nieces and a nephew; and her beloved dog, "Frito" who was like a child to her. Sissy was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jackie J. Miller who died February 22, 2014; step-father, Charles Sells; and 2 brothers-in-law, Tom Miller and Ron Miller.
A funeral service celebrating Sissy's life will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, December 23, 2016 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood with Pastor Pete McGuire of the Apostolic Christian Church in Tipton, officiating. Burial will follow in the Wilkens Cemetery in rural Tipton County. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 2 to 8 PM on Thursday, December 22, 2016 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home.
