Cheryl A. Massey , age 77 of Elwood, passed away on Tuesday, July 9, 2024 at Community Hospital in Anderson after an extended illness. She was born Jan. 1, 1947 in Rugby, North Dakota, the daughter of John and Betty (Clouser) Johner. Cheryl was a 1965 graduate of Wolford High School in North Dakota. During high school, she was a cheerleader, member of the band, active in Drama Club, and participated in 4-H. After moving to Indiana, she was a devoted mother and homemaker who enjoyed caring for her family. In the 1980's, Cheryl was a Disc Jockey at the Elwood WBMP Radio Station where her radio name was "Ivy Lane". Later, she worked at Roche Diagnostics in Indianapolis for 25 years as a diagnostic technician and retired in 2022.
Cheryl was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Elwood and formerly active in the American Business Women's Association (ABWA) in Elwood. She especially enjoyed working with flowers and gardening at her home. Cheryl also enjoyed sewing and was an accomplished seamstress for many local stores such as Falvey's and Leeson's. She enjoyed socializing with everyone she met. Cheryl will be remembered as a devoted wife, mother, and grandma who will be dearly missed.
Cheryl's family includes her mother, Betty Johner of Tipton; two daughters, Angela Kleyla (fiancé Cliff Hoskins) of Elwood and Tamara (Chris) Lovell of Girard, Illinois; brother, Jerald (Monica) Johner of Pennsylvania; 6 grandchildren, Kyle Kleyla, Janene Kleyla, Collin (Selena) Hoskins, Colin Lovell, Kennedy Lovell, and Kayleigh Lovell; 5 great-grandchildren, Evelyn, Xavier, Ava, Ila, and Drake; and several nieces and nephews. Cheryl was preceded in death by her father, John Johner; brother, Tim Johner; and former spouse, Robert "Bob" Collins.
Cremation will take place. Arrangements have been entrusted to Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood. Memorial contributions are suggested to the American Cancer Society. Online condolences and memories may be shared at www.copherfeslermay.com.
