Obituary

Charles E. "Charlie" Shaw , age 75 of Elwood, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday Oct. 8, 2023 at Ascension St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis following a brief illness.  He was born Sept. 9, 1948 in Elwood, the son of Howard and Mabel (Henderson) Shaw.  Charlie was a 1966 graduate of Wendell L. Willkie High School in Elwood.  He retired from RCS Concrete Supply in Noblesville in 2019 where he worked as the sales manager.  Charlie also formerly owned Elwood Building Supply; worked at Wickes Lumber in Elwood; and was a contractor in Elwood under the name "Charlie's Construction" for many years.  He married Alice LaShure on Feb. 1, 2010.

Charlie was a former member of the Kiwanis and Rotary Clubs in northern Indiana, and was a member of the Indiana Lumberman's Association.  He loved deer hunting; watching the Indianapolis Colts; and rooting for the Cincinnati Reds baseball team.  Charlie was formerly a coach in little league sports when his children were younger.  He especially enjoyed cooking and baking for holiday dinners; working in his garden; and was well-known for making delicious peanut brittle.  Charlie loved border collies and enjoyed spending time with his dog, "Banjo".  He had a great sense of humor and never knew a stranger.  Charlie will be remembered as a loving husband, father, brother, and grandfather who will be dearly missed.

Charlie's family includes wife, Alice (LaShure) Shaw of Elwood; 2 children, Chris (Debbie) Shaw of Simpsonville, SC and Melissa (Jon) Bucur of Muncie: 2 step-children, Travis (Nikki) LaShure of Elwood and James LaShure of Elwood; sister, Janet (Bill) Cauble of Elwood; 4 grandchildren, Olivia, Tyler, Allison, Kade; and several brothers and sisters-in-law.  Charlie was preceded in death by both his parents.

A funeral service celebrating Charlie's life will be conducted at 1:00 pm on Thursday, Oct. 12, 2023 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood with Pastor Brad Collett of Joy Christian Church officiating.  Visitation for family and friends will be held from 11 am to 1 pm prior to the funeral on Thursday at the funeral home.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Elwood Animal Shelter through the funeral home.  Online condolences and memories may be shared at www.copherfeslermay.com.
