Obituary

Cecilia M. "Ceal" Raines, age 73 of Elwood, died Sunday, June 10, 2012 at St. Vincent Hospital in Carmel after an extended illness. She was born January 8, 1939 in Curtisville, Indiana the daughter of Jesse and Faye (Grandstaff) Heagy. Ceal was employed at the "Sandwich Shop" in Elwood beginning in 1976. She later purchased the business in 1998 and was the owner and operator of Ceal's Sandwich Shop until she retired in 2002. She attended Curtisville schools. She married James A. Raines on February 4, 1956. She was formerly a member of the Elwood Moose Lodge, and was formerly selected by the Elwood Elks Lodge as the Elwood "Woman of the Year". She was also a member of the Elwood Eagles Lodge and the Central Indiana Bluegrass Association. She enjoyed reading, working crossword puzzles, and spending time with her family. Ceal was a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend to everyone.

Survivors include: 6 children, Margaret "Peggy" (husband Roy) Buckner of Anderson, Kim (husband Duane) Alsip of Anderson, Candy Raines of Indianapolis, James Allen (wife Lisa) Raines II of Anderson, Beth (husband Reid) Myers of Westfield, and Joseph Raines (companion Monica Kelly) of Elwood; sister, Florence Jones of Anderson; 12 grandchildren, Mellissa Buckner, Kelly Allman, RJ Buckner, Jami Contino, Ashley Sparks, Nathan Alsip, Amanda Raines, Alyssa Alsip, Drew Raines, Mallory Myers, Alex Raines, and Grant Myers; 13 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 50 years who died July 28, 2006, James A. Raines; 2 brothers, William A. Heagy and Otis Lee "Jake" Heagy; 2 sisters, Margaret Meredith and Martha Klebofski; and infant sister, Sarah Heagy.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Thursday, June 14, 2012 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood with Rev. Joe Olson officiating. Burial will take place in the Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery in Elwood. Visitation will be held from 3 to 8 PM Wednesday, June 13, 2012 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home.
