Obituary

Catherine Sue "Cathy" Ogden , age 77 and a lifelong resident of Elwood, passed away on Tuesday, June 29, 2021 at St. Vincent Heart Center in Carmel surrounded by her family after a sudden illness.  She was born September 18, 1943 in Elwood, the daughter of Milo "Mike" and Dorothy (Moore) Kilgore.  Cathy was a 1961 graduate of Wendell L. Willkie High School.  She married the love of her life, Phillip R. Ogden, on February 1, 1964 at Grace United Methodist Church, and they shared over 57 years of marriage together.  Cathy worked at John H. Hinds Vocation School for 31 years, first as a secretary and later as the treasurer before retirement in 2011.  She was a lifelong, devoted member of Grace United Methodist Church in Elwood where she currently served on the Pastor Parish committee and was a member of the United Methodist Women.  Cathy was also a member and current Vice President of the Landon Guild of St. Vincent Mercy Hospital as well as a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority in Elwood.  Cathy enjoyed auctions, estate sales, and looking for treasures and bargains.  She also enjoyed watching her college basketball bracket every year during March Madness.  More than anything, Cathy was absolutely devoted to her family in every way, and she was definitely the matriarch of her family.  She loved attending family sport functions, family dinners, and holiday celebrations with all her family.  Cathy will be greatly missed by her family, friends, and the community.

Cathy's family includes her husband, Phil Ogden of Elwood; 2 children, Susan (husband Larry) Ogden-Hill of Noblesville and Michael Ogden of Elwood; 3 sisters, Carol Hudson of Frankton, Janet Stover of Elwood, and Mary Ellen (husband Curt) Whitson of Elwood; 2 grandchildren, Courtney Ogden of Elwood and Kayla (husband A.J.) Anthony of Elwood; 2 great-grandchildren, Lennon Michael Anthony and Sadie Darlene Anthony; brother-in-law, Bill (wife Charlene) Ogden of Rogersville, TN; sister-in-law, Virginia Ogden of Tipton; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great nephews.  Cathy was preceded in death by both her parents and sister, Judith "Judy" Gillam.

A funeral service celebrating Cathy's life will be conducted at 11:00 am on Saturday, July 3, 2021 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood with Pastor Bill Johnston of Grace United Methodist Church officiating.  Burial will follow in the Elwood City Cemetery.  Visitation for family and friends will be held from 4:00 to 8:00 pm on Friday, July 2, 2021 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home.  A Beta Sigma Phi memorial service will take place at 7:00 pm Friday evening at the funeral home.  Health precautions and social distancing continue to be appreciated.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Grace United Methodist Church through the funeral home.  Online condolences and memories may be shared at copherfeslermay.com.
