Catherine Lynn "Cathy" Huntsinger , age 68 of Frankton, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 5, 2021 at the Alexandria Care Center surrounded by her family after a 10-year battle with cancer. The daughter of Harry and Julia (Greenwell) Kibby, she and her twin sister, Judy, were born on September 17, 1952 in Nashville, Tennessee. Cathy graduated from St. Bernard Academy in 1970; received her Bachelor's Degree in 1974 from Austin Peay State University; and received her Master's Degree in education in 1977 from Ball State University. It was at Austin Peay where Cathy met the love of her life, Dennis W. Huntsinger, and they married on September 2, 1972 sharing the next 49 years together. Following her marriage, she moved to Frankton, Indiana where she spent the next 34 years teaching physical education, health, and driver education to three generations of students at Frankton Jr./Sr. High School and Frankton Elementary School. She founded the girls' volleyball and girls' track and field programs in Frankton. Over the course of her 13-year coaching career, she was named the Conference Coach of the Year nine times.
Professionalism, service, and passion are words that describe Cathy. Dedicated to teaching, Cathy was nationally recognized in 1993 as Health Educator of the Year by the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance. Cathy was an avid world traveler visiting over twenty countries and forty-eight of the U.S. states. Dennis and Cathy were longtime members of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Elwood where Cathy assisted with funeral dinners. She was an active member and past-president of Beta Chapter of Delta Theta Tau Sorority in Elwood where she currently served as the historian of the organization. In her free time, Cathy enjoyed playing euchre, sewing, and crafting. More than anything, she loved spending time with her family and grandchildren. As her health began to decline, she especially treasured the time and care that was provided by her cousin, Mary Alice Fortner, and her sister, Judy McCarthy. Cathy will be forever loved and remembered, and her laughter will live on through her four beloved grandchildren.
