Carolyn Sue Tomlinson , age 81 of Elwood, passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2024 at Community Hospital in Anderson following a brief illness. She was born Nov. 1, 1942 in Anderson, the daughter of Carl Woodrow and Mary C. (Glass) Chambers. Carolyn was a graduate of Summitville High School. She married the love of her life, Doyle Wayne Tomlinson, on Nov. 4, 1961, and they shared over 56 years of marriage together until his passing in 2017. Carolyn started working at Kmart in Elwood on opening day, and she continued to work there for 30 years until she retired in 1999. She was a devoted member of the Jehovah's Witness Church in Elwood for nearly 50 years. Carolyn enjoyed traveling with her family, working crossword puzzles, and baking for her family. In her younger years, she loved to go mushroom hunting and fishing with Doyle. Carolyn was an avid reader, especially of her Bible, and also enjoyed crocheting. More than anything, Carolyn loved to spend time with her beloved family and friends.
Carolyn's family includes 2 daughters, Myra (husband James) Tillery of Elwood, and Toni (husband Bryan) LaShure of Elwood; sister, Kathy (husband Terry) Raquet of Texas; 2 sisters-in-law, Joyce Chambers of Elwood and Barb Chambers of Elwood; 5 grandchildren, Zach Bowyer (companion Olivia), Nicholas (wife Emily) LaShure, Dylan LaShure (companion Christina), Thomas Lashure (companion Whitney), and Carolyn (husband Shane) Alexander; 27 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Doyle Tomlinson; 3 siblings, Larry Chambers, Johnny Chambers, and Linda (Vic) Angell; and grandson, Joshua Tillery.
A funeral service celebrating Carolyn's life will be conducted at 1 pm on Monday, Feb. 12, 2024 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood. Burial will follow in the Elwood City Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 11 am to 1 pm on Monday prior to the funeral at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home.
