Carolyn F. Bohlander , age 95 of Summitville, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 21, 2020 at Miller's Merry Manor in Tipton following an extended illness. She was born September 13, 1924 in Elwood, the daughter of Charles E. and Louisa A. (Brown) Stewart. Carolyn was a 1943 graduate of Elwood High School. After high school, she went to work for Guide Lamp Corporation in Anderson during the war, and she also worked at the Sweet Shop in Elwood. Carolyn married the love of her life, Raymond E. Bohlander on September 12, 1945 and they shared over 42 years of marriage together until his passing on June 23, 1988. Carolyn was baptized at Grace United Methodist Church in Elwood, and she was later a longtime member of St. John Lutheran Church in Elwood. She was very active in church activities and was a former member of the ladies Von Bora group. Carolyn was a member of the Order of Eastern Star for many years. She especially enjoyed traveling and took memorable special trips with her daughter, Christy, to Washington, D.C. and the Henry Ford Museum in Michigan. Carolyn also loved to go on shopping trips and always enjoyed watching Lawrence Welk and Mitch Miller television programs on Saturday evenings. She was a very energetic and outgoing person who never knew a stranger and was always willing to help others. More than anything, Carolyn cherished the time she spent with her family, and her presence will be greatly missed.
Carolyn's family includes 6 children, Michael (wife Wanda) Bohlander of Alexandria, Tim Bohlander of Kempton, Linda (husband Johnny) Lennen of Culver, Christy (husband Irving) VanDeMark of Culver, Jeff (wife Catana) Bohlander of Elwood, and Brian (wife Robyn) Bohlander of Summitville; sister, Judith Hardebeck of Elwood; 11 grandchildren, Dawn (husband Dutch) Parish of Alexandria, Clinton (wife Jennifer) Bohlander of Noblesville, Eric Bohlander of Kempton, Heather (husband Chris) Cole of Carmel, Monica (husband Keith) Schlechty of Elwood, Jade (husband Josh) Michael of Fort Wayne, Hannah (husband Craig) Bennie of Fairmount, Cody (wife Marisa) Bohlander of Jonesboro, Heather (husband Brett) Vanlandingham of Wabash, Bill Foust of Peru, and Haley (husband Levi) Holmes of Wabash; 22 great-grandchildren, Jacob, Joshua, Amy, Anthony, Jeremy, Bentley, Jordan, Lucas, Savannah, Harley, Phoenix, Jasper, Liam, Xander, Bodie, Colton, Kimber, Lyla, McKinley, Taylor, Reagan, and Trevor; and several nieces and nephews.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Raymond Bohlander; 2 brothers, Charles Stewart and Harold Stewart; 2 sisters, Trula Faulstich and Rose Stewart; 4 grandchildren, Joshua Bohlander, Amanda Bohlander, Michelle Bohlander and Michael Bohlander, II; and daughter-in-law, Katherine Bohlander.
Due to current health precautions and state restrictions on public gatherings, services for Carolyn will be private. A funeral service celebrating Carolyn's life will be conducted privately with her family at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood with Pastor Kal Rissman of St. John Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park in Elwood. There will be no public visitation. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Alzheimer's Association or St. John Lutheran Church through the funeral home – P.O. Box 20, Elwood, IN 46036.
