Obituary

Carl "David" Speer, age 65 of Noblesville and formerly of Elwood, passed away on July 17, 2017 at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis after a brief illness.  He was born September 2, 1951 in High Point, North Carolina, the son of Carl and Mary (Stone) Speer.  David worked in customer service for Ford Motor Credit, General Motors Credit, and IBM before his retirement in 2008.  He was a member of the class of 1970 of Wendell L. Willkie High School, and later graduated from Forest Hills High School in Lake Worth, Florida.  He attended the University of Louisville and Hillsborough Community College in Plant City, Florida.  David married Sharon Banks on January 29, 1971 and they shared over 46 years of marriage together.  He served in the Indiana National Guard, and attended White River Christian Church in Noblesville.  David was a devoted family man, and loved to spend time with his grandchildren.  He attended their many activities, taxied them to and from school, and even built a larger home to accommodate his children and grandchildren - "Waltons" style.  He enjoyed being a "stay-at-home Grandpa" after retirement, moving to Oklahoma to be closer to them; then moving back to Indiana in 2014.  He was known for his storytelling, and tailored his own entertainment to the likes of his family.  David will be always be remembered for putting his family first in life.

David's family includes his wife, Sharon Speer of Noblesville; 2 daughters, Tracy (husband Shawn) Smith of Oklahoma and Jenny Speer of Noblesville; 8 siblings, Stephen Speer of Anderson, Sheila (husband Trent) Worthman of Arcadia, Carla Speer-McCall of Noblesville, Rosemary Speer-Fisher of Noblesville, Carla (husband David) Flynn of California, Carla (husband Rod) Speer-Long of California, Suzi Brooks of California, and Paul (wife Patricia) Odham of Florida; sister-in-law, Judith Speer of Elwood; 7 grandchildren, Hannah, Kyleigh, Noah, Kolton, Katheryn, Abigail, and Kenna'D; great-grandson, Liam; and several nieces and nephews.  David was preceded in death by his parents; son, Christopher David Speer; and brother, Mike Speer.

A memorial service celebrating David's life will be conducted at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the St. Vincent Foundation for COPD Research through the funeral home.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood, and online expressions of condolence may be made at copherfeslermay.com.
