Obituary

Carl E. "Eddie" Barnes, age 65 of Windfall, died Thursday July 5, 2012 at his residence surrounded by his family following a brief illness. He was born August 10, 1946 in Elwood, the son of Carl W. and Ruth Ann (Paugh) Barnes. Eddie retired in 2002 from Chrysler Corporation in Kokomo where he worked in Die Cast Production for 30 years. He attended Frankton schools and later served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He married Clara F. "Frannie" Boyer on August 26, 1967. Eddie was an active member of the Elwood V.F.W. # 5782. He enjoyed working jigsaw and crossword puzzles, and loved tinkering in his pole barn.

Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Clara F. "Frannie" Barnes of Elwood; 2 children, Carl W. (Joyce) Barnes of Galveston and Roberta "Bobbie" Dawn (Kenny) Lynn of Windfall; special adopted family member, Craig Altherr of Henderson, NV; 2 sisters, Anna Ridener of Sarasota, FL and Temple (Ralph) Phillips of Alexandria; 8 grandchildren, Christopher Barnes, Nathan Lee, Carl Edward Barnes II, Emily Lee, Nichole Barnes, Tyler Lynn, Jesse Lynn, and Megan Barnes; 3 great-grandchildren, Konnor Blanton, Dillon Lee, and Asher Barnes; and many special nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; step-mother, Dorothy Barnes; step-father, William Barnes; and grandmother, Froni Goetz.

Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, July 10, 2012 at 10:30 AM at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral home in Elwood with Rev. Ron Becker of the Main Street Wesleyan Church in Elwood officiating. Burial will follow in the Elwood City Cemetery where military rites will be conducted by the U.S. Military and the Elwood V.F.W. Honor Guard. Visitation will be held 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Monday, July 9, 2012 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Lung Association through the funeral home.
