Obituary

Carl W. Craib, age 83 of Elwood and a lifelong resident of Madison County, passed away on Saturday, June 30, 2018 at his home surrounded by his family after an extended illness.  He was born on January 16, 1935 in Anderson, the son of Charles A. and Hulda C. (Fish) Craib.  Carl worked as a farm assistant with Webb Farms for over 15 years, and he also formerly worked for 43 years at Fisher Body Corporation in Marion.  He was a 1953 graduate of Anderson High School, and married Patricia A. Ohler on August 1, 1953.  They shared 59 years of marriage together before her passing in 2013.  Carl enjoyed spending winter months in Florida and was a member of the Orange Blossom Church in Florida.  He loved everything about farming and was a devoted assistant to Randy Webb.  Carl was a volunteer fireman at the Summitville Volunteer Fire Department; served for several years on the Summitville School Board; and was Deputy Town Marshall for many years.  He was also a member of the Summitville Lions Club.  More than anything, Carl was devoted to his family and was an excellent provider all of his life.

Carl's family legacy includes 4 children, Debra Craib of Elwood, Linda Morrison of Muncie, Gayle Craib of Elwood, and Carl W. Craib, Jr. of Elwood; 6 grandchildren, Deanna Morrison (companion Anthony), Patricia (husband Ty) Cobb, Bradley Morrison (Fiance Ashli), James (fiancé Emily) Shoemaker, Carl Craib III, and Veda Craib; 10 great-grandchildren, Kayden, James, Iris, McKayla, Eadyn, Chevy, Destiny, McKenzie, Spencer, and Keegan; and several nieces and nephews.

Carl was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Patricia A. Craib in 2013; son-in-law, Jeff Morrison; brother, Basil Craib; and great-grandson Issac Quate.

A funeral service celebrating Carl's life will be conducted at 1:00 PM on Friday, July 6, 2018 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood with Pastor Rodney Ellis of the First Missionary Baptist Church, officiating.  Burial will follow in the Elwood City Cemetery.  Visitation for family and friends will be held from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm on Friday, July 6, 2018 prior to the funeral service at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home.  Online expressions of condolence may be made at copherfeslermay.com.
