Candice A. "Candy" Scholl , age 77 and a lifelong resident of Elwood, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Oct. 21, 2023 at Elwood Health & Living after an extensive illness. She was born Aug. 22, 1946 in Elwood, the daughter of Walter "Spark" and Joe Ann (Crouse) Moore. Candy attended Wendell L. Willkie High School with the class of 1964. She was well-known for working at K-Mart in Elwood for many years in various departments where she enjoyed interactions with local shoppers. Candy married Lee E. Scholl in 1983 and they shared 40 years of marriage together before his passing earlier this year.
Candy also formerly worked at Fiesta Hair Salon in Elwood as an attendant. She formerly attended the Bethel Baptist Church in Elwood. Candy enjoyed crafts, native American dream catchers, working with flowers, and formerly riding motorcycles with her husband. She had a special heart for stray animals and never hesitated to help animals in need. Candy was a longtime fan of Willie Nelson, and she saw him live several times. Candy will be remembered as a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who absolutely loved her family more than anything.
Candy's blended family includes 9 children, Andrea (Garry) Swan, Danny (Debbie) Faucett, Tony Faucett, John (Sheri) Faucett all of Elwood, Eddie (Gail) Scholl of Florida, Lisa Kannapel (partner Al) of Spencer, Lonny Scholl of Elwood, Christina (Matthew) DiGuilio of Indianapolis, and Terressa (Chris) Murphey of Saganaw, MI; sister, Terrie (Jerry) Rittenhouse of Elwood; sister-in-law, Joyce Moore of Elwood; 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Joseph (Diane) Scholl of Elwood; and several nieces and nephews. Candy was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lee Scholl; and brother, Garry Moore.
A funeral service celebrating Candy's life will be held at 6 pm on Wednesday, Oct. 25, 2023 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 4 to 6 pm prior to the funeral on Wednesday at the funeral home. Cremation will follow the services. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Elwood Animal Shelter or the Alzheimer's Association. Online condolences and memories may be shared at www.copherfeslermay.com.
