Brenda A. (Floyd) Short, age 50, of Elwood died Monday, May 7, 2012 surrounded by her family at Community Parkview Care Center in Elwood after an extended illness. She was born December 10, 1961 in Elwood, the daughter of Richard D. and Linda S. (Courtney) Floyd. Brenda worked for the Elwood Community School Corporation in Food Services at the High School for 12 years and as a substitute in the elementary schools and retired in 2009. She graduated from Madison Grant High School in 1980 and attended Ball State University and Braniff Flight Attendant School in Dallas, Texas. She married Robert A. Short on July 11, 1981. Brenda was a life-long and devoted member of Harmony Christian Church in Leisure. She was a very loving person and enjoyed spending time with her family. She also enjoyed cooking, baking, wood crafting, gardening, planting flowers, and reading. Brenda enjoyed caring for her home and her family; and was also an avid cat lover.

Survivors include her parents, Richard and Linda Floyd of Elwood; her husband of nearly 31 years, Robert A. Short of Elwood; 2 children, Becky and husband Zach Spencer of Broad Ripple and Scott Short of Greenfield; sister, Nancy and husband Gary Webb of Casa Grande, AZ; 2 brothers, Brad Floyd of West Palm Beach, FL, and Brent and wife Carla Floyd of Elwood; mother-in-law, Ruby Short of Orlando, FL; several nieces and nephews; and beloved cat "Cabo".

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Samuel and Juanita Courtney, and Willard and Berniece Floyd; father-in-law, Paul Short; and brother-in-law Michael Short.

Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, May 10, 2012 at 2:00 PM at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood with Rev. Ron Meyer of Harmony Christian Church officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery in Elwood. Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM Thursday, prior to the funeral service at the funeral home.
