Bonnie Jane VanNess, age 80 of Elwood, died suddenly on Thursday, June 12, 2014 at St. Vincent Mercy Hospital in Elwood. She was born September 22, 1933 in Elwood the daughter of Norman F. and Sarah K. (Shaw) Hinds. Bonnie retired from General Cage Company in Elwood in 1981 where she had worked for more than 25 years as a secretary. She was a 1951 graduate of Wendell L. Willkie High School. After, graduating from Ball State University with a degree in business education, Bonnie worked for a short time as a teacher. She later married Harold "Ed" VanNess on June 6, 1958, and just recently celebrated their 56th anniversary. Bonnie was a member of both Tri-Kappa Sorority and Sigma Kappa Sorority in Elwood. She enjoyed working crossword puzzles and spending time with her family. She will always be remembered as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
Bonnie's family includes her husband, Ed Vanness of Elwood; 2 daughters, Kathy (husband Greg) Fettig of Elwood and Andrea (husband Jerry) Isenhower of Fishers; brother, Robert (wife Letha) Hinds of Elwood; 6 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and a sister, Laurel "Jo" Hofer in 2004.
Private graveside funeral services will be conducted at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery in Elwood with Pastor Jeff Haill of Solid Rock Ministries officiating. Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home has been entrusted with Bonnie's funeral arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
