Bobby G. Thornburgh, age 68 of Elwood, died Friday, July 1, 2011 at Community Parkview Care Center in Elwood following an extended illness. He was born August 7, 1942 in Richmond, Indiana, the son of William P. and Amy Lee (Shanks) Thornburgh. He was retired from Delco Remy in Anderson where he worked in production for 42½ years. Bobby was also a 1988 graduate of the Noblesville Police Academy and worked as a reserve officer for the Markleville Police Department and the Civil Defense. He worked at Hare Chevrolet in Noblesville up until the time of his illness. He was also a volunteer Fireman in Anderson for several years. Bobby was active member of the Elwood Elks Lodge #368, the U.A.W. #662 in Anderson, and was an Emergency Responder and Defibrillator Technician while working at Delco Remy. He was an avid outdoorsman and fisherman; loved NASCAR racing – especially Dale Earnhardt; was an avid Colts fan; and enjoyed taking trips and traveling.
Survivors include: Wife of 23 years who he married May 7, 1988 – Angela M. (Faulstich) Thornburgh of Elwood; 5 Children – Lisa (Joe) Wiley of Cocoa Beach, FL, Paula (Joe) Keaton of Anderson, Robert J. "Bobby" (Tiffany) Thornburgh of Kokomo, Travis Walling of Elwood, and Chad (Joanna) Walling of Melbourne, FL; Brother – Douglas (Susan) Thornburgh of Florida; Sister – Patricia Thornburgh of California; 8 Grandchildren – Danielle Carter, Barbara Thornburgh, Chantel Jones, Marilyn "Josie" Keaton, Michael (Melinda) Thornburgh, Sabrina (Tino) Wiley, Joe Wiley, Kirsten Paul; 5 Great-Grandchildren – Alazjia Thornburgh, Alyus Thornburgh, Mason Thornburgh, Angelique Bito, and Alexis Bito; Father-in-law – Lawrence Faulstich of Elwood; Special Friends – Gary Bradberry of Anderson and Jim "Termite" Fettig of Anderson; Beloved Pets – Brutus Lee, Pookie, Angel, and Binky; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM Friday, July 8, 2011 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood with Rev. Tim Stigers officiating, and the family requests that Hawaiian clothing be worn in memory of Bobby. Burial will follow in the Elwood City Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2 to 8 PM Thursday, July 7, 2011 at the funeral home. The Elwood Elks Lodge will conduct a memorial service at 7:00 PM Thursday evening at the funeral home.
