Blythe Bernett
Terwilliger
May 15, 1926 — Feb 10, 2020
Blythe B. Terwilliger , age 93 and a lifelong resident of Elwood, went to be with the Lord on Monday, February 10, 2020 at her residence after a long, full life. She was born May 15, 1926 in Elwood, the daughter of Harvey and Sofrona (Slater) Terwilliger. Blythe was a 1944 graduate of Elwood High School and later earned her bachelor's degree in education to become a teacher. She was a teacher for over 35 years at Edgewood Elementary School in Elwood. After retirement from full-time teaching, she continued teaching as a substitute in the Elwood school system for many years. She interacted with hundreds of children during her career. Blythe was a longtime member of the Southside Community Church in Elwood where she served as the church pianist and a Sunday school teacher. She was a devoted member of the church and especially loved reading the bible. Blythe was a spiritual influence to many people at the church, and she was known for visiting shut-ins around the community on a regular basis. She was an avid reader of the daily Elwood Call-Leader newspaper. Blythe was a rather private person who took great pride in remaining independent even into her later years. She will be greatly missed by many people.
Blythe's family includes her cousin, Charlotte "Joan" King (companion Willard Deeds) both of Farmland; 3 great-nephews, Christopher Terwilliger, Bradley "David" Terwilliger and Jay Terwilliger, Jr.; great-niece, Angeline Terwilliger; and her extended family and friends at Southside Community Church. Blythe was preceded in death by both her parents; brother, Verland Terwilliger; sister whom she lived with for many years, Janice Terwilliger in 2014; and a nephew, Jay "Terry" Terwilliger.
Due to the Covid-19 Pandemic, her services were postponed in March. A memorial service celebrating Blythe's life will now be conducted at 1:00 pm on Saturday, July 18, 2020 at Southside Community Church - 1815 South P Street, Elwood with Pastor Mark Hahn officiating. Visitation for family and friends will be held one hour prior to the service on Saturday prior to the memorial service at the church. Burial will take place following the memorial in the Elwood City Cemetery. Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home has been entrusted with Blythe's funeral arrangements.
