Beverly A. "Bev" Widmeyer, age 82 of Elwood, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 16, 2013 surrounded by her family at St. Vincent Hospice in Indianapolis following a brief illness. She was born on February 24, 1931 in Elwood, the daughter of Fred and Ethel (Dudley) Boyden. Bev retired in 2008 from Widmeyer Realty, a business she had owned and operated as a broker for more than 40 years. In addition to being a real estate broker, she was also a real estate appraiser. She was a 1948 graduate of Wendell L. Willkie High School and majored in accounting at Ball State University. Bev later obtained her Real Estate Broker's license and Certified Appraiser's Licenses. Bev married Richard Lee Widmeyer on September 18, 1949. She was a devoted member of the First United Methodist Church in Elwood where she was active in the United Methodist Women; managed the church library; was a member of the choir and hand bell choir; and always assisted with the Vacation Bible School program. Bev enjoyed playing bridge, bowling, and golf. She also enjoyed reading, traveling, watersports on the lake, skiing, and boating. She was a former member of the Elwood Country Club and the Elwood Lady Elks. Bev especially enjoyed spending time with her family and will be greatly missed by all her family and friends.
Her surviving family includes 5 children, Diana Bordeau of Zionsville, Peggy Hufnagel of Elwood, Penny Patton of Elwood, Kay (husband Eric) Alexander of Elwood, and Mark Widmeyer of Elwood; sister,
Dr. Alice Butterworth (husband Frank) Butterworth II of Marion; 10 grandchildren, Brad, Stacey, Brian, Carrie, Scott, Roxie, Jamie, David, John, and Sara; 17 great grandchildren, Adam, Kate, Chloe, Meadow, Tristan, Reese, Maxden, Renae, Bryce, Natalie, Alyvia, Averi, Levi, Logan, Bentley, Rylee, and Tanner; and many nieces and nephews.
Bev was preceded in death by her parents; husband of nearly 47 years, Richard Lee Widmeyer who died on July 17, 1996; and a sister, Theresa Boyden.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Saturday, July 20, 2013 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood with Rev. Bill Mathys, former pastor of First United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery in Elwood. Visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday, July 19, 2013 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood, and one hour prior to the funeral service on Saturday at the funeral home.
