Obituary

Beulah A. Leachman, age 91 of Fairmount, died unexpectedly Sunday, May 11, 2014 at St. Vincent Mercy Hospital in Elwood after a wonderful morning spent with her family. She was born March 2, 1923 in Marion, the daughter of Lawrence J. and Juanita R. (Gaddis) Winger. Beulah retired in 1985 from St. Vincent Mercy Hospital in Elwood where she was a Licensed Practical Nurse for 19 years. She was a 1941 graduate of Sweetser High School. Beulah married George F. Leachman May 22, 1943. In 1968, she graduated from the Kokomo School of Practical Nursing. She was a devoted member of Harmony Christian Church where she was involved in the Harmony Helpers group. She was an honorary member of the American Business Women's Association. She was also member of the Ladies Aid Society Beulah enjoyed listening to music, watching TV, and traveling to Das Essenhaus to eat. She was well known for making delicious pies for her family and friends. More than anything, Beulah was a caring person and loved being with her family.

Beulah's family includes her daughter, Karen (husband Mike) Purtee of Elwood; 5 grandchildren, Jonathan Purtee of Elwood, Teresa (husband Dean) Miller of Mendon, MI, Bruce (wife Kristie) Leachman of Genesea, IL, Steve (wife Stephanie) Leachman of Columbia City, and Stephanie (husband Dan) Sitzes of Kokomo; 13 great grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; and 2 nieces.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband George F. Leachman who died in 1968; a son, Dennis A. Leachman who died in 2004; and a sister, Helen Alberts.

A funeral service celebrating Beulah's life will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, May 14, 2014 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood with Rev. Ron Meyer of Harmony Christian Church officiating. Burial will follow in the Elwood City Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 4:00 to 8:00 PM Tuesday, May 13, 2014 at the funeral home and will include a 7:00 PM A.B.W.A. memorial service.
