Betty Jean Fletcher, age 91 of Alexandria, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 25, 2016 at Community Hospital in Anderson after a brief illness. She was born March 14, 1925 in Tipton County, the daughter of Arthur and Garnett (Balser) Dugan. Betty retired in 1987 from Airfoil Textron (formerly Ex-Cello Corp.) in Elwood where she worked in production for 22 years. She was a 1943 graduate of Arcadia High School and later attended cosmetology school in Anderson. She worked as a hairdresser for many years. Betty married Arnold Calvin Fletcher on November 10, 1944. She was formerly a member of Main Street Wesleyan Church in Elwood. Betty enjoyed sewing, reading, crocheting, and visiting flea markets. In 2015, Betty had the opportunity to travel on a memorable trip to Myrtle Beach, SC with many of her family members. More than anything, she will be remembered as being a loving mother and grandmother who was dedicated to caring for her family.
Betty's family includes 3 daughters, Shirley (husband Donald) Parker of Anderson, Sue (husband Jim) Metz of Elwood, and Sheila Kay Ray of Antioch, TN; a son, James Calvin (wife Chris) Fletcher of Bradenton, FL; 9 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; and 2 nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of nearly 25 years, Arnold Fletcher who died in 1969; a son, Stanley Fletcher; 2 grandsons, Ben Fletcher and Kevin Fletcher; and 2 brothers, Chuck Dugan and Eldon Dayton Dugan.
Private Graveside funeral services will be held at Brookside Cemetery in Windfall per Betty's wishes. Arrangements have been entrusted to Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home.
