Obituary

Bertha N. "Kitty" Pence, age 97 of Bradenton, Florida passed away on Saturday, November 24, 2018 at Blake Medical Center in Bradenton with her family by her side.  She was born February 11, 1921 in Elwood, the daughter of Kenneth and Vurlen Sigler.  Kitty married Michael S. Pence, and she traveled coast-to-coast with him while he was serving in the United States Air Corps.  They then moved to Dekalb, Illinois when he took a job for General Electric.  Through the years while Michael worked for G.E., Kitty and her daughters lived in Illinois, Tennessee, Iowa, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Singapore, and Brazil.  Kitty was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Bradenton, FL where she enjoyed many church friendships.  She also enjoyed playing golf, bridge, reading, and dancing.  Kitty was very family oriented and even took her 14 year old daughter, Nancy, to a Beatles concert.  She easily made friends anywhere she went and loved to tell tales of all her world travels.  More than anything, Kitty loved her family dearly.

Kitty's family includes her granddaughter, Margo (husband Scott); son-in-law, David Pearson; and cousins, David (wife Barb) Abernathy of Elwood and Ann Gunning of Fairmount.  Kitty was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Michael Pence; and, 2 daughters, Barbara and Nancy.

A celebration of Kitty's life will be held at Freedom Village in Bradenton, FL at a later date.  Entombment will take place in the Elwood City Cemetery Mausoleum.  Memorial contributions are suggested to the Shriners Hospitals for Children through the funeral home.  Online expressions of condolence may be made at copherfeslermay.com.
