Bernice M. Gordon, age 91 of Tipton and formerly of Elwood, died early Saturday, May 5, 2012 at Miller's Merry Manor in Tipton following an extended illness. She was born October 3, 1920 in Tipton the daughter of Nev and Katherine (Zittenger) Baker. She was also raised by special parents, John and Nettie Horton of Tipton. She was a homemaker most of her life, and formerly worked at Perfect Circle Corporation for 10 years before retiring in 1980. She was a 1938 graduate of Tipton High School. She married Marion "Hugh" Gordon on September 23, 1939. She enjoyed reading, crocheting, knitting, and working in her yard. She was formerly active in the PTA when her children were in school. She also enjoyed cooking, baking, and spending time with her family – especially her grandchildren.
She is survived by son, Tim K. and wife Eileen Gordon of Greeley, Co; two daugthers, Vicki L. Gordon of Elwood and Pam K. and husband Riley McCord of Alexandria; 6 grandchildren, Dr. Steve Gordon and wife Dr. Atsuke Ohtake, Deborah and husband Matt McPhee, Brent and wife Jennie Gordon, Wade Graham, Laura and husband Jon Ash, and Scott and wife Amber McCord; 11 Great-Grandchildren, Akio, Keiko, Zac, Seth, Delaynie, Jeramy, Sarah, McKenna, Taylor, Devon, and Joshua; Sister-in-Law, Doris Shaw of Frankton; and several nieces and nephews.
Bernice is preceded in death by her parents and special parents; husband of 51 years, Marion "Hugh" Gordon who died January 23, 1991; great-grandson, Garrett McPhee; sister, Katherine (Fred) Beach; brothers-in-law, Robert (Ethel) Gordon, Dallas (Betty) Gordon, and Bob Shaw; and sister-in-law, Helen (Jack) Hertle.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 1:00 PM Tuesday, May 8, 2012 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood with Rev. Josh Carney of the First Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow in the K. of P. – I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Frankton. Visitation will be held from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM on Tuesday prior to the funeral at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home.
