Obituary

Benita Alice "Bonnie" (Bailey) Harper , age 87 and a lifelong resident of Frankton, went home to be with her Lord Jesus on Saturday August 31, 2019 surrounded by her family.  She was born at home in Frankton on February 20, 1932 to Claude and Cuba (Summers) Bailey.  She lived her entire life in Frankton.  Bonnie was a 1950 graduate of Frankton High School; attended secretarial school in Indianapolis; and worked at Guide Lamp in Anderson for several years.  Bonnie later worked at the Elwood branch of the Bureau of Motor Vehicles for over 25 years, and enjoyed interacting with her customers and friends.  Bonnie was a faithful member of the Frankton United Methodist Church where she formerly served as the church pianist and organist for many years.  She was a Past Worthy Matron of the Frankton chapter of the Order of Eastern Star and a member of Delta Theta Tau Sorority in Elwood.  Bonnie was an avid sports fan and watched games every day they were on TV.  She maintained schedules for the Reds, Pacers, and Colts, and recorded scores religiously.  She would often have 2 televisions on while listening to a high school game on the radio.  She watched NCAA basketball games and always favored the Indiana teams.  Bonnie also enjoyed NASCAR races.  In later years, she especially enjoyed watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren play softball, basketball, baseball, football, and volleyball.  She was known for watching birds around her property, and had a steady stream of hummingbirds visiting her home and sunflowers.  Bonnie had a smile for everyone she encountered, and she will be greatly missed by all her family and many friends.  Her family would like to thank the staff of Community Heart & Vascular Hospital as well as Dr. Robert Helm and his staff for the outstanding care and compassion they provided for Bonnie.

Bonnie's family legacy includes her son, David (wife Katherine) Harper of Frankton; daughter, Susan (husband Jeff) Shick of Calhoun, GA; 6 grandchildren, Vincent Evans of Arkansas, Brandi Harper of Fishers, Neal (wife Dana) Harper of Lapel, Leah (husband Joey) Hobbs of Noblesville, Amanda (husband John) Wilson of Tennessee, and Stephanie (husband Tate) Henshaw of Georgia; 7 great-grandchildren, Brock and Tatum Harper, Nathan and Leland Hobbs, Eden Wilson, and Evie and Ava Henshaw; and several nieces and nephews.  Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Dallas "Max" (and wife Ruthie) Bailey and Don Bailey.

A memorial service celebrating Bonnie's life will be conducted at 5:30 pm on Thursday, September 5, 2019 at the Frankton United Methodist Church – 109 South 8 th Street, Frankton with Pastor Bob Preusz officiating.  Visitation for family and friends will be held from 4:00 to 5:30 pm on Thursday prior to the memorial service at the Frankton United Methodist Church.  Memorial contributions are suggested to the Eagle Pack in Frankton, and envelopes will be provided at the church.  Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood.  Online condolences and special memories may be shared at copherfeslermay.com.
