Barbara L. McQuitty, age 81 of Fishers and formerly of Elwood, died Tuesday, July 5, 2011 at her residence in Fishers surrounded by her loving family after a battle with lymphoma. She was born July 28, 1929 in Elwood, the daughter of Morris L. and Charlotte E. (Crousore) Wells. She was a 1947 graduate of the Wendell L. Willkie High School in Elwood. She married Richard R. McQuitty on November 12, 1948. She was a homemaker and also worked as a bookkeeper for Dr. Tom Mengelt's medical office for several years before retiring in 1980. Barbara was a loyal member of the First United Methodist Church in Elwood where she was a member of the United Methodist Women and thoroughly enjoyed making Christmas stockings for the annual Christmas stocking ministry. She was an active member of the American Business Women's Association and the Red Hat Society. She enjoyed making crafts, cross-stitching, quilting, and reading. She loved to travel and had traveled to 49 of the 50 states.
Survivors include: Husband of 62 years – Richard R. McQuitty of Fishers; 3 Sons – Timothy and Kathleen McQuitty of Mesa, AZ, Charles and Susan McQuitty of Farmland, and Jeffrey and Candice McQuitty of Noblesville; Brother - Donald L. and Alice Wells of Barnhart, MO; 6 Grandchildren – Jody McQuitty, Karmen McQuitty, Kevin McQuitty, Adrianne McQuitty, Lindsay McQuitty, and Nathan McQuitty; 6 Great-Grandchildren – Dalton McQuitty, Braydon McQuitty, Landon McQuitty, Camryn McQuitty, Noah Gordon, and Zahra Dockery.
She was preceded in death by: Parents and 2 Brothers – Marvin L. Wells and Delbert M. Wells.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, July 9, 2011 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood with Rev. Chris Dare of First United Methodist Church officiating. Entombment will take place in the Elwood City Cemetery Mausoleum. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 PM Friday, July 8, 2011 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home. There will also be an A.B.W.A Memorial Service at 7:00 PM Friday evening at the funeral home. Memorial Contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church through the funeral home.
