Obituary

Barbara "Joan" Jackson , age 89 of Elwood, passed away on Tuesday, July 1, 2025 at her home surrounded by her family following a long well-lived life.  She was born August 11, 1935 in Summitville, the daughter of Lester and Elizabeth (Knotts) Kendall.  Joan attended Summitville schools.  She married the love of her life, Marvin J. Jackson on June 5, 1952 and spent over 49 years of marriage together until his passing in 2002.  Joan loved being a mom and caring for her family and friends.  If you came to Joan and Marvin's home, you never left thirsty or hungry, as she fed everyone out of love.  She enjoyed cooking and baking, everyone will remember her famous homemade pies and fried chicken.  Joan took great pride in caring for her home and her lawn.  You would always see "The Real Barbara Jackson" with her big, beautiful smile that could light up any room.  Joan loved the simplicity of life by giving to others out of the kindness of her heart.  More than anything, Joan will be remembered as a loving mother and granny.

Joan's family includes 3 children, Marva (Keith) Ryan of Windfall, Bill (Shelly) Jackson of Noblesville, and Jenny (Trent) Fern of Elwood; 12 grandchildren, Christina (Chris) Clark, Andrea (Phil) Smith, Christopher (Morgan) Jackson, Craig Jackson, Justin (Courtney) Jackson, Brandon McCarty (fiancé Montgomery Irvine), Zach (Autumn) Rohrman, Sam Rohrman, Wade (Amy) Kane, Hailey (Matt) Metz, Kray (Brittany) Fern, and Kacie McCarty; 20 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Joan is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Marvin J. Jackson; 6 siblings, Alice Bright, Bob Kendall, John Kendall, Darris Kendall, Jim Kendall, and Don Kendall; and a great-grandson, Shane Jackson.

Joan's wishes were to be cremated and have a graveside memorial service.  Graveside services honoring Joan's life and faith will be held at 12:00 pm on Saturday, July 26, 2025 at Elwood City Cemetery in Elwood with Pastor Joshua Borum of Windfall Christian Church officiating.  Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood is honored to handle Joan's funeral arrangements.  Online condolences and stories may be shared at copherfeslermay.com.
