Barbara Ruth (Loser) Chambers, age 77 and a longtime resident of Elwood, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 30, 2017 at St. Vincent Mercy Hospital in Elwood following a sudden illness. She was born December 4, 1939 in Warsaw, the daughter of Franklin "Johnny" and Helen "Sug" (Hook) Loser. She was a 1957 graduate of Frankton High School. In recent years, Barb owned and operated Main Treasures (and also formerly Main Video) in Elwood for over 20 years at the same location. Prior to that, she was the branch manager of the Elwood License Branch until it closed in 2005. Barbara married Jan M. Chambers in 1994, and they shared over 22 years of marriage together. She also formerly worked in sales and advertising for WBMP Radio station in Elwood for many years, and later was the office manager at Campbell Seed Company in Kempton. Barbara was a member of the Frankton American Legion for over 40 years, and was known for being very active in the Democrat party. She enjoyed taking antiquing trips with friends, crafting, and especially loved caring for her home and beautiful yard. More than anything, Barbara will be remembered for being friendly to everyone she met, and enjoyed talking with friends and customers about almost anything. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Barbara's family includes husband, Jan Chambers of Elwood; 3 sons, Bobby Mullins of Elwood, Randy Mullins of Anderson, and Marlin (wife Tammy) Means, Jr. of Frankton; 3 grandchildren, Mitchell Mullins of Elwood, Kennedy Mullins of Brownsburg, and Jonathon Mullins of Brownsburg; and a special dog, "Muffin". Barb was preceded in death by her parents and son, Billy Mullins.
Per her wishes, a private graveside service for Barbara will be conducted at a later date at the K. of P. - I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Frankton with Pastor Bill Johnston of Grace United Methodist Church officiating. Memorial contributions are suggested to the American Cancer Society or the Elwood Animal Shelter through the funeral home.
