Obituary

Barbara Mae Barber , age 80 of rural Elwood, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 5, 2026, at Ascension - St. Vincent Hospital in Anderson, surrounded by her family after a long and fulfilling life. Born on December 21, 1945 in Elwood, she was the daughter of Idress "Ed" and Nellie (Wilson) Davenport. Barb's unwavering faith in the Lord was the foundation of her life, guiding her through every joy and challenge. She was a member of East Main Street Christian Church and most recently attended Heritage Christian Church in Elwood.  Barb married her soulmate, Keith H. Barber on September 20, 1986, and they enjoyed over 39 years of marriage anchored in love and faith with their blended families.  She formerly worked at Red Gold in Elwood for many years as a scheduler, but her true calling was working with horses and livestock at KeiBar Farms.

Barb was a devoted farm wife and co-manager of their family horse business along with Keith, finding purpose and joy in caring for and raising God's creatures.  She took pride in the daily operations of the family horse and goat farms – absolutely devoted to all the animals entrusted by customers to their care.  Barb was known for being determined, positive, and enthusiastic about her work, and she found solace and happiness in the rhythms of farm life.  She overcame many health challenges in recent years; and a cherished, hand-written note found from Barb ended with "…Trust God and never give up."

Barb was a proud member of the Elwood Elks #368, and formerly worked for many years as a Jafra Cosmetics consultant. She delighted in spending time at their lake home on Silver Lake, where she would spend hours fishing and cruising around the lake with Keith. Above all, Barb cherished her family - especially her grandchildren, whom she held very close to her heart. Her life was a testament to the values she lived by - "Faith, Farm, and Family."

Barb's loving family includes, husband, Keith Barber of Elwood; 2 children, Jeff Fetz (Cindy Gaines) of Alexandria and Brandi (Keith) Smith of Martinsville; sister, Debbie King of Washington; 6 grandchildren, Rhiannon (Nathan) Padfield, Keigan (Cheyenne) Freese, Konnor (Kali) Freese, Keelie Freese, Karley Freese, and Kendal Freese; 3 great-grandchildren, Zion Padfield, Carson Freese, and Brynleigh Freese; 2 sisters-in-law, Doneta (Smoke) Merida and Joyce Barber; 2 brother's-in-law, Tony (ViAnn) Barber and Jeff (Jenny) Barber; and several nieces and nephews.  Barb was preceded in death by her parents; an infant daughter, Tracy Fetz; and 4 siblings, Jerry Davenport, Becky McCray, Buck Davenport, and Linda Benefiel.

A funeral celebration of Barb's life will be held at 4 pm on Wednesday, March 11, 2026 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood with Rev. Roger Gardner of Heritage Christian Church officiating.  Visitation for family and friends will be held from 1 to 4 pm prior to the funeral service on Wednesday at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home.  Memorial contributions may be made to Heritage Christian Church through the funeral home.  Online condolences and memories may be shared with the Barber family at copherfeslermay.com.
