Obituary

Ann Marie Nichols, age 67 of Summitville, passed away on Monday, October 8, 2018 at St. Vincent Carmel Hospital following a very sudden illness.  She was born July 5, 1951 in Anderson, the daughter of Bernerd Berl and Madge Olene (Murfin) Bathauer.  She was a 1969 graduate of Madison Heights High School in Anderson.  Ann married the love of her life, Jerry "Wayne" Nichols on April 19, 1974 and they shared over 44 years of marriage together.  She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Elwood, where she was a longtime organist and teacher.  Ann was a homemaker all of her life, and had previously worked at the Anderson Library for a few years.  She loved to help others by preparing meals, organizing services, and always being there to listen.  Ann loved her family, and especially loved to spend time with her grandchildren reading and playing with them.  She was an amazing cook, and loved to prepare special birthday dinners and Sunday meals for her family.  More than anything, Ann had a very caring heart and touched many lives.

Ann's family includes her husband Wayne Nichols of Summitville; 3 children, Robin (husband Josh) Morris of Lafayette, Tom Nichols of Anderson, and Dan (wife Lacie) Nichols of Fairmount; 2 brothers, Bernerd "Bud" (wife Sue) Bathauer of Florida, and Thomas "Tom" Bathauer of Anderson; 6 grandchildren, Kaleb, Kyle, Adriana, Kohl, Johnna, and Johnnathin; and several nieces and nephews.  Ann was preceded in death by her parents, and her brother, Ken (wife Barbara) Bathauer.

A funeral service celebrating Ann's life will be conducted at 1:00 pm on Friday, October 12, 2018 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Elwood with President Ken Vehikite officiating.  Burial will follow in Forrestville Cemetery in Rural Summitville.  Visitation for family and friends will be held from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Thursday, October 11, 2018 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Elwood.   Memorial contributions are suggested to the American Cancer Society through the funeral home.  Online expressions of condolence may be made at copherfeslermay.com.
