Obituary

Alexander "Tony" Pete, age 83 of Elwood, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 28, 2018 at Community Hospital in Anderson following a brief illness.  Tony was born May 11, 1935 in Elwood, the son of Tony and Edna (Sosbee) Pete.  He worked as a bounty hunter for many years in Arizona on a large Indian Reservation.  He also worked as a carpenter for many years which he enjoyed very much.  Tony married his wife, Arletta, in 2007.  Tony formerly sang many times at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville along with his band, "Tony and the Bounty Hunters".  He was an avid gun enthusiast and was especially knowledgeable in repairing a wide array of guns.  Tony enjoyed training and breaking horses, and he loved all things western.  He liked western movies and books, and his favorite author was Louis L'Amour.  Tony formerly attended the Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church.  He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.  Tony's family would like to thank Crystal Cancio, Josh Pete, and Rob & Deb Cunningham for the care they provided for Tony in recent months.

Tony's family legacy is extensive and includes 10 children, Tina (husband Bart) Ferguson of Elwood, Mike Pete of Elwood, Tony Pete of Monticello, Garrett Pete of Utah, Tony Pete II of Utah, Shelly Pete of Arizona, Tammy O'Dell of Arizona, Tasha Alexander of Arizona, Threacha Pete of Florida, and Carla Pete of California; sister, Janet Sue (husband Gene) Weaver of Kentucky; over 40 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

Tony was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Arletta on July 1, 2017; daughter, Tonya Gmurk; 2 sisters, Belva Niccum and Linda Harless; 2 brothers, Jake Niccum and Cleo Niccum; granddaughter, Shannon Gmurk; special nephew, Danny Harless; and 2 infant granddaughters.

Following cremation, a graveside memorial service will be held at a later date at the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Scottsville, KY where he will be laid to rest next to his wife.  Funeral and cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood.  Online condolences to the family may be expressed at copherfeslermay.com.
